Table of Physical and Chemical Properties and Hazardous Characteristics of Hydrazine Hydrate

Chemical name

Chinese name: 水合肼(含水36%) 、水合联氨

English name: Hydrazine hydrate, Diamide hydrate

Hazard Code: 82020 CAS Number: 10217-52-4 UN Number: 2030

Molecular formula: N2H4.H2O Molecular weight: 50.06 Hazardous category: Class 8.2 alkaline corrosive substances.

Hazard Overview

Health hazards: Inhaling the vapor of this product can irritate the nose and upper respiratory tract. In addition, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and central nervous system symptoms may also occur. Liquids or vapors have a stimulating effect on the eyes and can cause permanent damage to the eyes. Irritating to the skin and can cause severe burns. Can be absorbed through the skin and cause poisoning. May cause dermatitis. Oral administration can cause dizziness and nausea, followed by temporary central respiratory depression, arrhythmia, and central nervous system symptoms such as drowsiness, movement disorders, ataxia, numbness, etc. Abnormal liver function may occur. Chronic effects: Long term exposure can lead to neurasthenia syndrome, liver enlargement, and abnormal liver function.

Environmental hazards: Harmful to the environment and can cause pollution to water bodies.

Explosive hazard: This product is flammable, highly toxic, highly corrosive, and irritating, and can cause burns to the human body.

Emergency measures

Skin contact: Immediately remove contaminated clothing and rinse with plenty of flowing water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.

Eye contact: Immediately lift the eyelids and thoroughly rinse with plenty of flowing water or saline solution for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.

Inhalation: Quickly leave the scene and move to a place with fresh air. Keep the respiratory tract unobstructed. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen. If breathing stops, immediately perform artificial respiration. Seek medical attention.

Ingestion: Drink plenty of warm water and induce vomiting. Gastric lavage. Seek medical attention.

Fire protection measures

Dangerous characteristics: Flammable in the presence of open flames and high heat. Has strong reducibility. Can react strongly with oxidants, causing combustion or explosion. Reacts violently with mercuric oxide, metallic sodium, stannous chloride, and 2,4-dinitrophenylchloride.

Harmful combustion products: nitrogen oxides.

Firefighting method: In case of a large fire, firefighters must operate in a protected shelter. Spray the escaping liquid with water to dilute it into a non flammable mixture, and protect firefighters with misty water. Extinguishing agent: spray water, insoluble foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder.

Emergency response to leakage

Quickly evacuate personnel from the contaminated area to a safe zone, isolate them, and strictly restrict their entry and exit. Cut off the fire source. It is recommended that emergency personnel wear self-contained positive pressure respirators and acid and alkali resistant work clothes. Do not come into direct contact with the leaked material. Cut off the leakage source as much as possible. Prevent the flow into restricted spaces such as sewers and drainage ditches. Minor leakage: Absorb or absorb with sand or other non combustible materials. You can also rinse with a large amount of water, dilute the washing water, and put it into the wastewater system. Massive leakage: Construct embankments or dig pits to contain it. Transfer to a tanker or dedicated collector using a pump, and recycle or transport to a waste disposal site for disposal.

Handling and Storage

Precautions for operation: Closed operation, local exhaust. Operators must undergo specialized training and strictly adhere to operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear self-priming filter type gas masks (full face masks), rubber acid and alkali resistant clothing, and rubber gloves. Keep away from sources of fire and heat, and smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Use explosion-proof ventilation systems and equipment. Prevent steam leakage into the workplace air. Avoid contact with oxidants, acids, and metal powders. Handle with care during transportation to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Equip with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and emergency response equipment for leaks. Empty containers may contain residual harmful substances.

Storage precautions: Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Stay away from sources of fire and heat. The storage temperature shall not exceed 30 ℃, and the relative humidity shall not exceed 80%. Keep the container sealed. It should be stored separately from oxidants, acids, metal powders, and edible chemicals, and avoid mixing storage. Equip with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment. The storage area should be equipped with emergency response equipment for leaks and suitable containment materials. The "five double" management system for extremely toxic substances should be strictly implemented.

Contact control and individual protection

Exposure limit: China MAC (mg/m3) 0.13 [skin]; The former Soviet Union did not establish a standard for MAC (mg/m3)

Engineering control: Closed operation, local exhaust. Provide safety shower and eye wash equipment.

Respiratory protection: When there is a possibility of exposure to its vapors, a self-priming filter type gas mask (full face mask) must be worn. It is recommended to wear a self-contained breathing apparatus during emergency rescue or evacuation.

Eye protection: Respiratory protection has been implemented.

Body protection: Wear rubber acid and alkali resistant clothing. Hand protection: Wear rubber gloves.

Other protections: Smoking is strictly prohibited at the work site. After work, take a shower and change clothes. Store clothes contaminated with toxic substances separately and wash them for later use. Pay attention to personal hygiene and cleanliness.

Transportation information

Packaging method: Small opening steel drum; Glass bottles or plastic drums (cans) with fully open steel drums outside; Screw mouth glass bottles, iron cap pressed mouth glass bottles, plastic bottles, or ordinary wooden boxes outside metal drums (cans).

Transportation precautions: During railway transportation, the dangerous goods loading table in the "Dangerous Goods Transport Rules" of the Ministry of Railways should be strictly followed for loading. When shipping, the packaging should be intact and the loading should be secure. During transportation, it is necessary to ensure that the container does not leak, collapse, fall, or be damaged. It is strictly prohibited to mix and transport with oxidants, acids, metal powders, edible chemicals, etc. Transport vehicles should be equipped with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and emergency response equipment for leaks during transportation. During transportation, it should be protected from direct sunlight, rain, and high temperatures. When transporting by road, follow the prescribed route and do not stay in residential or densely populated areas.
